About Jackie

I'm a physician and professor by training. After leaving practice, I took a position as an adaptive technologist in 1995, which required me to learn scripting in order to go to various call centers and make their software accessible. I've written scripts for many applications, including call center apps, Band-In-a-Box, forensics programs, educational software, and others.

I feel bad that the only way to get training in scripting is either through the school of hard knocks, or by going to Freedom Scientific's headquarters in St. Petersburg. Those courses are wonderful, don't get me wrong. But they're inaccessible to most folks, either because of prohibitive costs, distances, or both. The school of hard knocks is free, but it's long, time-consuming, often frustrating, and many simply don't succeed at it. I felt there had to be a middle ground, and I've tried to create that. Classes are small, reasonably priced, and conducted online from the comfort of your home or office. PJ's welcome. We'll never know. Additionally, if unable to attend, students can download the lecture recordings and listen to them so they'll never really miss class. It's the new way of learning--less expensive, more convenient, and much friendlier as regards the environment.

We desperately need good scripters, and I'm hoping to be able to help students to learn both the fundamentals of scripting, as well as to understand and apply the rigorous standards set by Freedom Scientific when writing scripts.

For those who've already signed up, welcome! I hope you're enjoying taking the course as much as I am teaching it, and that it's been as much of a learning experience for you as it has been for me. For those who have not, please let me know if you're interested in a course sometime either toward the end of this year or beginning of next, as well as which times will be convenient. I'll accommodate as best I'm able.

Looking forward to hearing your comments and feedback.
